I was born in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 but I spent much of my life growing up in Shanghai 🇨🇳. 我出生在香港，但我是在上海长大的。
When I was very little, my father wanted me to be able to speak English fluently because he knew how important English was (and still is) as a global language. Having studied in the United States, my father’s English is more than fluent and he began conversing in English with me at home ever since I was in primary school. 在我很小的时候，我父亲就希望我能够说一口流利的英语，因为他知道英语作为一种全球语言是多么重要（现在也是如此）。我父亲曾在美国学习，他的英语非常流利，从我上小学起，他就开始在家里用英语与我交谈。
At the same time, I went to an international school from kindergarten to 12th grade and I spoke only English with my teachers and friends as many of my friends were from abroad. I was also reading English books and watching English movies and TV-shows. 同时，我从幼儿园到十二年级都在一所国际学校读书，由于我的许多朋友都来自国外，所以我和我的老师朋友只说英语。我也只会阅读英文书籍，看英文电影/电视节目。
By the time I was in third or fourth grade, my proficiency in Mandarin/Cantonese started deteriorating and English quickly became my primary language. 到了三、四年级时，我的普通话/广东话水平开始下降，英语迅速成为我的主要语言。
As of now, I would only consider myself conversational in Mandarin/Cantonese as I am able to get by living in both Hong Kong and China. I can speak and understand both languages alright but I am unable to read or write in Simplified and Traditional Chinese. 到目前为止，我认为自己的普通话/广东话只具备一定的对话能力，因为我曾在香港和中国居住。我可以说这两种语言，但我无法阅读或书写简体中文和繁体中文。
I would love to be fluent in Mandarin/Cantonese so I can better communicate with my extended family based in Hong Kong as well as with all my Chinese-speaking peers. 我希望能够熟练掌握普通话/粤语，这样我就能更好地与我在香港的大家庭以及所有讲中文的同龄人交流。
